Research objectives

To understand how national and international laws, norms, and (written and unwritten) rules shape the business environment in the five Central Asian countries

  • International actors: the role and influence of transnational and international actors on institutional and business environments of the Central Asian region
  • Domestic institutions: the nexus between legal environment, domestic regulatory institutions and the actual governance practices in the definition of the business environment
  • Business actors: the reaction of national and international business actors to the formal and informal norms and practices produced by the synergies between domestic and international actors
  • Informal institutions and norms: the perception by society and its citizens and the business community of compliance and non-compliance with business rules
