Visit of the Uzbek Embassy to Lund University

Nodir Ganiyev is presenting new Uzbek Embassy

Central Asian Law team hosted the visit by the representatives of the newly established Embassy of the Republic of Uzbekistan to the Kingdom of Sweden.

The representatives of the Embassy visited Lund University’s Sociology of Law department on the 22ndof November 2022. The chargé d'affaires of the Uzbek Embassy in Stockholm – Mr. Nodir Ganiev and the third secretary Mr. Orifjon Ismoilov held meetings with the researchers of the Department.

The guests were welcomed by the Rustamjon Urinboyev, Principal Investigator of the projects “Central Asian Law: legal culture and business environment in Central Asia” and “MOCCA: Multi-level orders of corruption in Central Asia” and Matthias Baier, senior lecturer in Sociology of Law, and lead contact points of these projects. Matthias Baier provided some information about Lund University and Sociology of Law department and general information about the projects and research in the department. Then Rustamjon Urinboyev informed the event participants about the past and current research on Central Asia. He mentioned that the Sociology of Law department has become an unofficial Central Asian Research Hub in Scandinavia, attracting numerous scholars and funding on researching governance, corruption, migration, rule of law and business environment issues in Central Asia.

The guests were also informed about the two current multi-year projects on Central Asia – “Central Asian Law” and “MOCCA” projects. Project assistants prepared presentations where they shared the project aims and objectives, results so far, and the future plans and events. Two guest researchers to the Central Asian Law project currently at Lund University also shared their experiences of doing secondment (guest research stay), what they have learned and what are the differences of doing research in Central Asia and Europe.
